Derinkuyu underground city
Derinkuyu Underground City was designed to be 85 meters deep and could house 20,000 people, as well as food and livestock. It is the largest underground city in Cappadocia and has a system that allows the floors to be closed off separately. The unique feature of these underground cities is that they have a religious school on the second floor. Because it was difficult to transport animals and foods down, the top of the first floor, like others, was used as a barn and storage. Kitchens were popular at the time, and the cylinder stone doors separated the sections.
