Diyarbakir Great Mosque

Diyarbakir Great Mosque is considered one of the oldest mosques in Anatolia. In 639, when Muslim Arabs dominate the city they transformed the Martoma Church which was the largest one in the city, into Great Mosque. The Great Seljuk Ruler Meliksah ordered extensive repairs in 1091, but later it was damaged by fire and earthquake in 1115. It is accepted as the 5th Haremi Serif, and the sundial, which was done by Ismail Al-Jazari, can be seen.
