Eceabat

Eceabat is an old town in Canakkale Province on the shores of the Dardanelles. The former name of the district was Maydos and was founded by the Thracians. It was ruled by the Iranians around the second century BC, followed by Persian wars in the fifth century. The Persians, Athenians, Spartans, Romans, Latins, and lastly, the Ottomans ruled. The ancient city of Sestos, the castles of Bigali, Kilitbahir, and Seddulbahir, and the Maydos Kilisetepe mound are the attractions of the region.
