Edirne Castle

Edirne Castle has a rectangular plan covering 360,000 m2 and consists of cylindrical, cut stone towers on the corners. Only one tower remains as a clock tower today, and the other three were used as prisons during the Ottoman period. It has been known that the names of the towers were Lattice Gate, Tension Gate Tower, and Dungeon Six Tower. The castle used to have nine entrances and was called Tower Gate, Topkapisi, Yerli Gate, Kapi Gate, Ugrun Gate, Manyes Gate, Tavuk Gate, Istanbul Gate, and Middle Gate. The clock tower, with some castle ruins around it, is an "Urban Archaeological Park" and is open for visits.
