Harem (Topkapi Museum)

Harem is one of the most curious places in Istanbul. It is located in the Topkapi Museum and can be described as the residence of the Sultan and his family. After the Topkapi Palace was built in the 1400s, it was the administrative center of the government for the next 380 years. Sultans' additions to the harem have made it larger and larger throughout the centuries. As a result, the harem section resembles a labyrinth. Intertwined rooms and large, ostentatious halls and corridors may pique one's interest. Harem, with all its grandeur, has been the subject of numerous films, television series, and novels throughout history. Today, it can be visited as a section of the Topkapi Museum.
