Hızır Reis Submarine Museum

It is located in the Izmit, Kocaeli and is named after the Ottoman naval commander and explorer Hızır Reis. Under the name USS Gudgeon, it was launched on June 11th, 1952 in Porsmouth, United States (SS 567). TCG Hzr Reis, who withdrew Turkish Sanjak in California on September 30, 1983, spent 30 years in the U.S. Navy before being turned over to the Turkish Navy and assigned to the Submarine Fleet Command.
