Istanbul Museum of Modern Art

In 1987 by the Istanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts (IKSV) an contemporary art exhibition was held in İstanbul in the name “The Istanbul Biennial”. This art event was received with great interest by art lovers on those days and seeds of the foundation of the Istanbul Modern museum has been thrown. The museum has been opened in 2004, when the warehouse building number 4 turned into a museum which was built as a dry cargo warehouse for Maritime Enterprises.

 

The museum has a spectacular collection that includes native artists' artworks such as Hoca Ali Riza, Mıgırdiç Civanyan, Nuri Iyem, Hikmet Onat, Nurullah Berk, Burhan Dogançay, Nedim Gunsur, Sarkis, and Abdulmejid II and else... Plus it has the artworks of international artists Tony Cragg, Julian Opie, Monica Bonvicini, Adrian Villar Rojas, Olafur Eliasson, Liam Gillick, Doug Aitken, and Jennifer Allora & Guillermo Calzadilla.
