Karasu Acarlar Floodplain Forest

Turkey’s largest one-piece floodplain forest is the Acarlar floodplain, which is situated in between the Karasu and Kaynarca districts of Sakarya. It is 50 kilometers from the city center and 7,5 kilometers long. The region is home to so many endemic species, and dozens of migratory birds breed and spend the winter here. Leucojum aestivum, also known as "summer snowflake" or "loddon lily," grows in the forest naturally and is being thought to have Alzheimer's and polio-curing properties. The forest is under protection.
