Kastabala Archaeological Site

Kastabala is an ancient city in Osmaniye Province in Turkey.  It is situated close to the Ceyhan River on the route to the Karatepe Aslantas Archeological Site. Beginning in 2009, archaeological excavations have shown that the area was inhabited from the late Neolithic era to the 13th and 15th centuries AD. The city had city walls built around it in the fourth century AD, and the castle on the top of the main hill dominates the plain. A sanctuary is mentioned in ancient sources, and it is well known that Kastabala served as the spiritual hub of Artemis-Persia.
