Klaros Archaeological Site

Klaros is an ancient city located in Izmir province, between Ahmetbeyli Valley, Kusadasi, and Cumaovasi. The temple of Apollo at Claros was Ionia's only Doric ruin until it was built in the 13th century BC and abandoned in the 4th century AD. It has served as a "divination center" for centuries. The two altars in the temple are dedicated to Apollo and Dionysus. The sanctuary is unique because it is the only place with a hekatomb (one block to anchor 100 animals), 8-meter-high cult statues of the gods Apollo, Artemis, and Leto, and inscriptions all over the temple.
