Labraunda Ancient Site

The Labraunda Archaeological Site is situated in the Milas district of Mugla Province. It was a settlement until the 13th century AD and dates back to the Bronze Age. It is one of Caria's most significant ancient cities. With the satraps Moussollos and his brother Idrieus, the city had reached its height of prosperity. During the celebrations in 355 BC, Moussollos, who had been saved from an assassination, began a reconstruction project and erected numerous impressive buildings throughout the city, including the Temple of Zeus. According to the resources, the big rock that is just above the city's water spring is where the "double-axe god" Zeus cult got its origins. Since 1948, there have been archeological excavations, resulting in the discovery of the ruins of the Temple of Zeus, Andron A, Open Cult area, West Stoa, Southern Propylon, Mausoleum, Southern Bath, Eastern Church, North Stoa, Eastern Propylon, and East Bath.
