Lagina Ancient Site

Lagina is an ancient site that has seen uninterrupted settlement since 3000 BC. Seleucid kings converted Lagina into a religious center and Stratonicea into a political center. According to the wall inscriptions, these two cities were connected to each other with a sacred bond and seemed like the sun and moon. An 8,5 km ancient road connected two cities, and great festivals were held every four years, beginning with a key-carrying ceremony. The first archeological digs were done by well-known artist Osman Hamdi Bey.
