Marmaris Museum

Marmaris Museum is located on a peninsula behind Marmaris Harbor in Muğla province. According to Herodotus of Halicarnassus, it was built in the 3rd century BC but was set on fire by the locals during the siege of Alexander the Great. Alexandre had it repaired. It was later bombed and damaged by a French warship during the First World War. It was restored in 1990 and recently in 2013 and was opened as a museum in 1991. Today, its extensive collection is exhibited in four showrooms.
