Mehmetcik Monument

The monument was erected to commemorate the martyrs who lost their lives in the Battle of the Sakarya, also known as the Officers' Battle because unusual numbers of officers lost their lives. Plus, the battle was the turning point of the Turkish Independence War, if the Turks had lost it, the Treaty of Sevres provisions were giong to be applied. The future plan is to establish a museum telling the story of the Battle of Sakarya next to the monument.
