Meke Crater Lake

Meke Crater Lake was formed by a volcanic eruption approximately 4 or 5 million years ago, and the hole was filled with maar water 9000 years ago. It is located in the Karapinar district of Konya, in the center of Anatolia. The lake gets its name from the Eurasian coots that live in its vicinity, and other migratory birds stop here as well. In 2005, the lake was added to the Ramsar Convention.
