Mersin Anamorium Archaeological Site

The Mersin Anamorium Archaeological Site is located in the Anamur district of the province of Mersin. Anamur is a peninsula and the southernmost point of Turkey. Anamorium, an ancient city located here for centuries, Because it linked Anatolia to the Mediterranean and Cyprus, Anamorium was a significant port city, a market, and the region's administrative hub. Due to its advantageous location, it flourished during the Roman and Byzantine eras; however, it is known that the city had a sizable population during the Hellenistic and Medieval periods. Today, it is possible to see the acropolis, necropolis, which contains tombs from various historical periods, odeon, basilica, theater, bath, and Holy Apostles Church.
