Misis, also known as Mopsuestia, is an ancient settlement that dates back to 6000 BC. It takes place next to the Ceyhan River on the historical Silk Road. According to some researchers, it was founded by Mopsus, one of the Trojan heroes. Throughout its history, the city has been ruled by the Hittites, Assyrians, Macedonians, Seleucids, Romans, Byzantines, Abbasids, and Ottomans. The Roman Bridge on the Pyramus can still be seen today, and the city's Roman-period buildings can be visited. According to legend, the city is where Luqman the Wise dropped the elixir of immortality.
