Rhodes Suleyman Mosque

The Suleyman Mosque, situated in Sokrates Street, was constructed in 1522 after the Ottoman Turks conquered the city. The mosque boasts an elegant minaret and features pink and white architecture. It was built to commemorate the victory of Suleyman I over the island. Suleyman I, also known as Suleyman the Magnificent, was a powerful leader during the Ottoman Empire's Golden Age, and expanded the empire's reach deep into Europe and North Africa. During the Ottoman reign, many of the churches in Rhodes were converted into mosques.
