Rumeli Mecidiye Bastion

Rumeli Mecidiye Bastion is the artillery crew that sank the Bouvet (Rumeli Mecidiye Bastion). The bastion is located on the Gallipoli Peninsula near Canakkale. Built in 1892 by Asaf Pasha in the south of Kilitbahir Castle, the bastion consists of 8 bonnets and German-made 4 24 cm. and 2 28 cm. diameter artillery pieces. It was commanded by Captain Hilmi (Sanlitop) Bey during the Canakkale Campaign in WWI. In addition, this is the bastion where Seyit Onbasi lifted 190 to 215 kilos of shells.
