Rumkale

Rumkale is a peninsula and fortress located 50 kilometers west of Sanliurfa Province. It has been known by many names throughout history, such as Sitamrat, Kal-a Rhomayta, Hromklay, and Ranculat. The architectural ruins in the area show that it was settled throughout the Late Roman and Medieval eras. Rumkale was important in Christian history because Apostle John lived there during the Roman period. Also, it has been said that Yohannes kept a copy of the Bible in a cave in Rumkale and then took it to Beirut. Today St. Nerses Church and Barsavma Monastery can be seen in a magnificent landscape.
