Rustem Pasha Mosque

It was a tradition for both Ottoman Sultans, dynasty members and senior statesmen to built a mosque or other kinds of foundation buildings when they were alive. Most of all historical sites that you can see in Turkey were built by that way except Rustem Pasha Mosque.

Rustem Pasha Mosque was built after his death by his father-in-law Suleiman the Magnificent. Different resources are pointing to different buil dates but it has been accepted that Ottoman architect Mimar Sinan built it around 1564. When it finished there are criticisms that the mosque is too plain, upon this Mimar Sinan covered inside the mosque with colorful red and blue Iznik tiles in floral and geometric designs that turn it a hidden gem. This is why Today it has been considered that Rustem Pasha Mosque is a miniature Blue Mosque.
