Sanliurfa

Sanliurfa is one of the oldest centers in the history of civilization and a home of many polytheistic to monotheistic religions. While the city already has classical sights such as castles and churches, it is also a religious center where beliefs ranging from polytheistic to monotheistic all arose at the same time. Sabians and Harranians, our prehistoric ancestors and their religious structure in Gobeklitepe, Prophet Ibrahim, who broke the idols worshipped by King Nemrud, Prophet Ayyub (Job), Oshroene King Abgar, who is one of the first Christians, all lived here. Today it has a dazzling museum complex that is the largest one in Turkey; Sanliurfa Archeological Museum, Haleplibahçe Mosaic Museum, Sanliurfa Castle, City Museum, Gobeklitepe, Halfeti, Birecik, Rumkale, Harran, and Tektek Mountains National Park… Isot pepper (Capsicum annuum), cigkofte, mirra (locally strong coffee), and a variety of dishes that are tasted and decorated with fresh spices are the signs of the region’s wealth tradition.
