Sardes Ancient Site and Artemis Temple
Sardis was the capital of the ancient Lydian kingdom, and it was ruled by the Persians, the Seleucids, the Roma, and the Byzantine Empires in that order throughout history. Especially during the Byzantine period, it became a significant episcopal center. Today, in the ancient city ruins of Akropol, the Gymnasium, Sinagog, Artemis Temple, Bath, and more can be visited. Moreover, the Artemis Temple, dedicated to the goddess of hunting, fertility, and soil, was built in the Hellenistic period in Peripteros' plan and is thought to be one of the largest Ionic temples in the world.
