Sebastapolis Archeological Site

Sebastapolis is a prehistoric settlement from the first bronze age that was built on a mound in the province of Tokat. The city, which was incorporated into the state of Cappadocia by Roman Emperor Traianus, is believed to have been founded in the first century BC. It is also known by the name Herakleopolis in some other sources, which is derived from Herakles, an ancient Greek hero. The archeological digs that were done in 10987 by the Tokat Museum have revealed that the site was a habitat throughout the Hellenistic, Roman, and Byzantine periods.
