Sedir Island

Sedir Island, also known as Cleopatra Island, is situated in Gokova Gulf in the southeastern Aegean Sea. It is situated in the Marmaris borders of Mugla and is the largest of the three islands in this group. Hecataeus of Miletus mentions that the first settlers on the island arrived in 4 BC, but the oldest inhabitants were most likely the Carians, the oldest Anatolian civilization, in 6 BC. Later, it fought alongside the Delian League against the Spartans, but Spartan commander Lysandros eventually took control of the city. Cleopatra, Poetry, Love, and Honeymoon Island are some other names for it. The sands on the island's northern coast are specially formed limestone droplets and can only be seen on the island of Crete, except for Sedir Island in the Aegean and Mediterranean. Moreover, the temple of Apollo and the church that was built in its place, the well-preserved theater, the agora, and the ancient harbor ruins can be seen on the island.
