Seyit Onbasi Monument

Seyit Onbasi, a Turkish soldier, served at the Rumeli Mecidiye Bastion on the Gallipoli front during World War I. He managed to place the allegedly very heavy artillery shells into the stock and hit the UK's Battleship Ocean from the rudder, causing it to go out of control, hit a mine, and sink. In the popular imagination, the story of this real event that Seyit Onbasi witnessed has become legendary. Sculptor Huseyin Anka Ozkan created the monument out of bronze and salt to honor Seyit Ali's bravery. It was erected in 1996 on the border of Kilitbahir village, on the site of the Rumeli Mecidiye Bastion.
