Side

Side is an ancient city, founded in the VII century BC, and came under the rule of the Lydian Kingdom in the VI century BC. When the Lydian Kingdom collapsed, the Persians captured it, and then, in 334 BC, the city did not resist to Alexander the Great. It was ruled by different civilizations for centuries and suffered from pirates. Finally, in 78 BC, it became connected to the Romans and, in 188 BC, it became the city of Pergamon. At the beginning of the 20th century, Cretan immigrants found Selimiye Village on the ruins of the ancient city. Nowadays, the theatre, the columnar road, Nymphaeum, the Vespasian Monument, and historical houses can be visited.
