Sirkeli Tumulus

Sirkeli Tumulus is located in the Ceyhan district of Sirkeli town in Adana Province. It is thought to be one of the largest mounds in the Cilicia region and the home of the Muwatalli II relief, which is considered the oldest one in Anatolia. The first digs were done in 1936 by J. Garstang, and later work moved on. According to research, the area was inhabited during the Chalcolithic, Iron, Hellenistic, and Roman periods. Middle Bronze Age pottery known as Syrian–Cilician Painted Ware, beak-rimmed Hittite pots, and Cypriot wares from the Late Bronze Age and Iron Age were found in the tumulus.
