Sureyya Opera House

Süreyya Opera House is a cultural landmark situated in the Bahariye quarter of Kadikoy in Istanbul, Turkey. The opera hall was designed by Kegham Kavafyan, an Ottoman Armenian architect, upon the request of a Deputy for Istanbul, Sureyya Ilmen. The building was originally established in 1927 as the first musical theater on the Anatolian side of Istanbul, but was mainly used as a cinema due to the lack of suitable facilities and equipment for operetta performances until 2007. The opera house underwent a functional renovation and reopened on December 14, 2007. The architectural design of the building showcases both aesthetic and functional influences, with the foyer inspired by the Art Deco style of the Champs-Elysées Theatre in Paris and the interior displaying stylistic characteristics of German architecture.
