Temple of Olympian Zeus

The Athenian tyrants began to build the Temple of Olympian Zeus in the 6th century BC and aimed to create the tremendous size temple however they could not finish it. After 638 years since the construction started the Roman Emperor Hadrian finished it in the 2nd century AD. When it was completed, it was the home of the ancient world’s some of the largest cult statues, the massive place which is standing among 104 colossal columns. Unfortunately, it could not protect its grandeur for a long time, 267 it was plundered then the Roman Empire fall and the temple became a quarry. 16 of the original columns could succeed to reach today. It is located between the Acropolis and the center of Athens, Syntagma Square few minute's walk.
