Temple of Trajan

Trajan's Temple is situated in Pergamon, an ancient city in Bergama, Izmir. The temple is the highest point of the Pergamon ancient city. It was dedicated to the Roman Emperor Trajan, who was deified. It has been known that there was once a Hellenistic building taking place instead of the temple. During the early 19th century, Trajan’s and Hadrian’s heads of colossal marble statues were found inside the temple. Unfortunately, these artifacts can be seen in Germany at the Pergamon Museum.
