The Altar of Zeus at Pergamon

The Altar of Zeus at Pergamon was built in memory of the victory of the Pergamon Kingdom against the Galatians in the 2nd century BC. It is situated on the terraces of the Pergamon Acropolis, today's Bergama Izmir. It is called Pergamonaltar and is referred to as the Throne of Satan in the Revelation Section of the Book of St. John. It is a very impressive piece of design, craftsmanship, architecture, and sculpture, and it was designed by Phyromachos, who is the seventh and last of the greatest Greek sculptors. It was dedicated to the goddess Athena and all the other gods, as well as Zeus.
