The Karakus Tumulus
The Karakus Tumulus, also known as the Karakush Tumulus, is a funerary monument in Adiyaman Province, Turkey. It was erected in approximately 30–20 BC by Mithridates II of Commagene in memory of 3 people from royal; Queen Isias, Princesses Antiochis, and Aka I of Commagene. The monument is a column with a bird figure on the top, thus receiving the name Karakus, which means 'black bird’ in Turkish. The tumulus is surrounded by three Doric columns, which are 9 m high.
