The Myndos Gate

The city was founded by Lelegs (one of the three oldest Anatolian civilizations) and ruled in turn by the Ptolemies, the Dynasty of Lysimachus, Rhodes' protection, Pergamon for a time, Rome, Aristonicus (a rebellion), Cassius, Carian Eparchia in the Byzantine period, and the Ottomans. Once there were two gates to save the city from raids, the Myndos Gate, which is rising near the graveyard of Gumbet, and the Mylasa Gate. Unfortunately, the Mylasa Gate does not exist today. As the ancient resources mention other structures in the city, such as the stadium and theater, they are gone. However, at the Byzantine Church, several fortification walls, half-covered columns on the ground, some mosaics, and ceramic fragments can still be seen. The archaeological digs demonstrated that the port of the city was active from the ancient ages till today.
