Tlos Ancient Site

Tlos' ancient site is 42 kilometers east of Fethiye in the Mugla Province. The evidence discovered in the city shows that it at least dates back to the 2nd century BC. It was one of the cities in the Lycian League, and it used to have three votes like the other five largest cities in the league. Despite being destroyed by invasions and wars, it is one of the few cities that survived until the nineteenth century. According to Greek mythology, the city is at the same time known as the place where the mythological winged horse Pegasus and the Greek hero Bellerophon, who captured it, lived. Today, especially in the tombs, it is possible to see the reliefs of these two mythological heroes and Cerberus, the three-headed dog.
