Uzuncaburc Archaeological Site

The Uzuncaburc Archaeological Site is located in the Silifke district of Mersin province. It is one of the best-preserved sites in Mersin. It was one of the districts of ancient Olba; however, during the reign of Roman Emperor Vespesianus, it became autonomous and renamed as Diokaesareia, which means "God-Emperor City."After the Byzantine period, the Turks called it Uzuncabur. The Temple of Zeus Olbios is the oldest building in the city, and it was converted into a church in the 5th century AD. Along with the Zeus temple, a 2nd century AD theater, the Tyche (God of Luck) Temple, five Corinthian columns, the monumental gate, a Hellenistic tower, and more can be seen on the site.
