Venetian Walls (Walls of Nicosia)

Nicosia, like Palmanova in Italy, and Valletta in Malta, was an example of an ideal city of the Renaissance in the first place, and the city and the fortifications were designed due to it. During the Lusignan period in 1211, the first military-purpose fortification in Nicosia was built. Margarita Tower was built in 1368 by King Peter I. The 11th King of Cyprus Peter II, called the Fat, built the first walls surrounding the city. Throughout the centuries, the walls get damaged because of the wars and invasions, they revived in the mid-19th century. Today, it is one of the most fascinating attractions on the island.
