Xanthos

Xanthos, located in present-day Kinik, Antalya Province, Turkey. It was a major ancient city that served as a center of culture and commerce for the Lycians, as well as later conquerors such as the Persians, Greeks, and Romans. The site's most remarkable feature is the number and quality of monumental tombs still standing on the hill on the left bank of the Xanthos river. Xanthos, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, had a significant impact on the architecture of nearby ancient cities. It also been known that the Nereid Monument inspired the design of the Mausoleum at Halicarnassus in Caria.
