Tash Rabat's Stone Caravanserai

High above the Naryn valley, the fifteenth-century Tash Rabat caravanserai sits alone on a former Silk Road route, its domed stone chambers built to shelter traders and their animals overnight. Few structures from that trade survive this intact anywhere in Central Asia.

Toward the Torugart Pass and China

The Naryn region runs up to the Torugart Pass, one of the more demanding overland border crossings into China, and the wide At-Bashy valley below it still supports herding families living in yurts through the summer months. Some tours here include a stop to watch traditional eagle hunting, a practice still kept alive among a handful of local families.
