Itinerary

On day one we collect you from the airport in Nairobi and transfer you to your first overnight hotel in this bustling East African city.

You spend the first night in Kenya's capital city, Nairobi, before setting off on the 10-day Masai Mara, Lake Nakuru & Mombasa Beach Tour the following morning.

In the morning we leave Nairobi and travel southwest to the famous Masai Mara Game Reserve.

Our journey to Masai Mara takes us via the scenic Great Rift Valley in Kenya. Along the way, we stop to admire the breathtaking views, before climbing the western side of the Rift Valley. Then we traverse the Loita Plains entering Maasai territory, where we pass Maasai warriors in bright red robes, tending their livestock along the road.

We look out for game as we drive to our overnight lodge in a private conservancy near Masai Mara, arriving in time for lunch.

After lunch, we venture into this beautiful Kenyan game park on an afternoon game drive. We explore Masa Mara searching for the abundant wildlife found here, including Africa's Big Five animals - lion, elephant, buffalo, leopard and rhino. Returning to the tented camp close to Masai Mara National Reserve we have dinner and relax in nature. Wildlife is often spotted from the camp, which is set on the banks of a river in the conservancy.

The next two days are spent game viewing in Kenya's leading game park, the Masai Mara National Reserve.

Our morning and afternoon game drives take us in search of Africa's Big Five and the wide array of other wildlife inhabiting this vast Kenyan game reserve. On clear days, the Mara offers fantastic orange-tinged sunsets that make for spectacular photos.

The Mara Game Reserve covers 1510km² of incredible wide-open landscapes and fertile riverine woodlands, following the looping meanders of the Mara and Talek rivers in southwest Kenya. One glimpse is enough to explain its appeal; it is the quintessential open African savannah, hosting a mass of wildlife.

Wherever you go in the vast Masai Mara Park you will see plenty of wildlife, such as Masai giraffe, baboons, warthogs, bat-eared foxes, grey jackals, spotted hyena, topis, impala, hartebeests, wildebeest. Elephants, buffalos, zebras and hippos are also found in great numbers. It is also common to see lions either basking after a heavy meal, or surveying the plains for their next meal. Cheetahs and leopards are harder to spot, but reasonably common.

The ultimate action here is without a doubt the annual wildebeest exodus, the Great Migration, in July and August when millions of these grazers move north from the Serengeti in search of lusher grass before turning south again in October. The Great Migration of hooved animals, in turn, attracts Africa's predators, such as lion, hyena and cheetah, among others.

Hot-air balloon trips are an entirely outstanding way of seeing the savannah plains teeming with wildlife. These Masai Mara balloon trips can be arranged at extra cost.

We overnight at the same tented safari camp close to Masai Mara, on both nights.

Day five starts with an early morning game drive in Maasai Mara Game Reserve. Our last Mara game drive takes us in search of any wildlife that may have evaded us thus far. Then we head back to the tented lodge for breakfast, before continuing our journey through Kenya.

From the Masai Mara Reserve, we drive north to Lake Nakuru National Park, arriving at our guest house in time for lunch. After lunch we head into the bush on an afternoon game viewing drive in Lake Nakuru Park, in search of its diverse wildlife and numerous birds. This Kenyan game park has retained its reputation as an ornithologist's delight, with more than 400 species of bird found here. Bird species include the Great White Pelican, African Spoonbill, Yellow-billed Stork, Lesser and Greater Flamingo, and Long-crested Eagle.

The Lake Nakuru National Park, in Kenya, is known as an important wildlife sanctuary for some of Africa's endangered species, especially black and white rhinos, and Rothschild Giraffes. The game reserve is also home to lions, waterbuck, buffalo, leopard and baboons, which we keep an eye out for on our game drive.

We have dinner and overnight in en-suite rooms at a comfortable lodge near Lake Nakuru. The lodge features a bar and restaurant and offers free WiFi, as well as in-room tea and coffee facilities, DSTV, complimentary bottled water and toiletries.

Embark on an early morning game drive in Lake Nakuru National Park, before breakfast. After breakfast at the lodge, we return to Nairobi, making our way to the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport. We arrive at the airport at about 14:00 and catch a flight to Mombasa (extra cost).

We meet up with you at the airport in Mombasa and transfer you to a beach hotel, for the next leg of our Masai Mara, Lake Nakuru & Mombasa Beach Tour.

We spend the next three days enjoying the sunshine and the warm Indian Ocean at a beach resort near Mombasa, on the coast of East Africa. Mombasa is the second biggest city in Kenya and boasts the largest port on the East African coastline.

Relax on the sandy beaches and take a dip in the sea, taking it easy after our action-packed game viewing in Kenya's finest wildlife areas. You can also enjoy optional (extra cost) activities and water sports in and around Mombasa, a chaotic melting pot of Indian, Arabic and African influences.
