Tengboche Monastery locally known as Thyangboche or Dawa Choling Gompa is a Tibetan Buddhist monastery in the heart of the variant Khumbu valley. Nestled at an elevation of 3,867 meters/ 12,687 feet on the trails of the Everest region. The monastery is the largest in the entire valley having a very great significance for the inhabitants. Set at the confluence of Dudh Koshi and Imja Khola rivers, on a ridge with Mt. Ama Dablam, Nuptse, Lhotse, and other mountain peaks on the backdrop.

The Tengboche Monastery Trek starts with a flight from Kathmandu to Lukla, exploring the various settlements along the trail witnessing the views of the mighty mountains, and learning about the Himalayan people. Soak in the tranquil beauty of Everest, Tawache, Nuptse, Lhotse, Ama Dablam, Thamserku, and other various mountain ranges. Heading towards Khumjung Village, and explore the Khumjung monastery. Next head towards Tengboche and visit the Tengboche ancient monastery. At the monastery witness each of the corners decorated with ancient art and stories. Also, witness evening and morning rituals. Providing you with a purely spiritual experience on high mountains.

Tengboche Monastery was established by Lama Gulu in 1916. The monastery complex was destroyed during an earthquake in 1943 and engulfed by fire in 1989. Re-established with the help of volunteers from the region and international assistance later on. The resulting structure is a great work of stone masonry on display, complete with an extended courtyard and spacious halls to facilitate cultural programs and activities. The monastery also has vicinities for the nunnery. After exploring the monastery and learning about the legends and stories retrace your steps back to Lukla and eventually towards Kathmandu.

Itinerary

The flight into Kathmandu is magnificent, with views of endless soaring mountains and lush green hills, and plain lands. As you arrive at Kathmandu International Airport a representative from Alpine Club of Himalaya will welcome you and drive you to your hotel. After you check in and rest for a while the rest of the day is yours to explore, you may have a guided city tour or explore the city on your own. The valley has various tourist attractions to offer from ancient temples and monasteries to Palaces and historical sites.

After an early breakfast head towards the domestic airport and head towards Lukla. A settlement perched on a hilltop. The flight offers an aerial view of lush green hills and valleys with the soaring Himalayan ranges stretching from Annapurna, and Makalu including Everest and other central ranges. Lukla is the starting point of various treks of the region. Upon landing at Luka meet up with your trekking crew.

After a brief rest start your trek towards the settlement of Phakding, the hike takes around 3 to 4 hours traversing across the lush hills of central Nepal. Once you reach Phakding head towards your accommodation and rest, later head out to explore the area.

After breakfast starts your trek to Namche Bazaar, following the rapids of the Dudh Koshi River crossing multiple suspension bridges, and ascending through woodlands of Rhododendron, Oaks, Juniper, and Pine forest on a backdrop of snowcapped mountains peaks of Mt. Everest, Lhotse-Nuptse ridge, Thamserku and other peaks of the Khumbu region.

Upon reaching Namche head out to explore the region. The area has various vantage points showing a different perspective of the region's landscape. Later visit pubs and restaurants around.

At higher elevations, proper acclimatization is very crucial, due to the presence of thin air your body needs to acclimatize. There are various points in the village, perfect for an acclimatization excursion. A hike to Everest View Hotel and Syangboche monastery is regarded as a perfect excursion.

Accommodations are available in trekking lodges, teahouses as well as several hotels all along the trail, providing basic well-maintained, and reasonably luxury 5-star ones with additional needs according to your budget. Tea houses on the trail vary in quality and price, depending on the amenities they feature.

The tea houses room has twin sharing beds and some basic furniture like a table or a chair. Normally, beds contain pillows and sheets and almost all tea houses provide extra blankets as it will be freezing at night. Usually, hot showers are available throughout the trek.

For trekkers who want to Camp, various campsites are available along the trail.

Common Breakfast During the trek:

During the trek, various tea houses provide a wide range of breakfasts. The most common breakfast includes Tibetan Bread (fried bread), Chapati (unleavened flatbread). The bread is provided with jam, butter or peanut butter, Scrambles, or boiled eggs, and vegetable curry.

Corn Flakes, Pancakes, Oats, and Muesli are also available. In some of the tea houses, American breakfast is available. Hot drinks including black tea and coffee are available for breakfast. Also, you may find various freshly baked items.


Common Lunch during the trek:

Dhal Bhat (Nepalese traditional food) is the most common meal found along trekking houses. But various varieties of meals are also available. Thukpa (Noodles) soups, Momos ( dumplings), Macaroni, Fried rice, Pizza, Spaghetti, a variety of soups, steaks, potatoes items, Sandwiches, rice with curry, spring rolls, burgers. Plenty of dessert items are also available.


Common Dinner during the trek:

Dhal Bhat (Nepalese traditional food) is the most common dinner. But you can choose from a wide variety. Momos (dumplings), Thukpa (noodle) soups, Macaroni, Pizza, Spaghetti, Sherpa Stew, steaks, potatoes items, fried rice with curry, Raman soups, burgers, and are available along the tea houses.

Most of the tea houses’ menus offer desserts. Rice pudding, Apple pie, fruit snicker, cake, pastries, etc.
