Railay and the Climbing Scene

Railay, reachable only by boat despite sitting on the mainland, has become one of Southeast Asia's best-known rock climbing spots, its limestone walls rising straight from the sand. Ao Nang, a short ride away, serves as the main base for pier transfers and beach bars.

Inland Detours

Away from the coast, the Emerald Pool and nearby hot springs at Khao Pra Bang Khram sit inside protected forest, a cooler contrast to the beach-hopping most Krabi trips center on. The Four Islands route, taking in Poda, Tup, Chicken Island and Phra Nang beach, remains the standard half-day boat trip.

Weather to Plan Around

The Andaman monsoon runs roughly May to October, when seas can be too rough for some island crossings. December through March gives the calmest water and clearest skies for boat tours out of Krabi.
