6 Day Masai Mara Wildebeest Migration & River Crossing Safari

After breakfast, depart from Nairobi and drive toward Lake Nakuru National Park. Along the way, stop at the Great Rift Valley Viewpoint for panoramic views of the valley and Mount Longonot.

Upon arrival at Lake Nakuru National Park, begin your first game drive before lunch.

After lunch, you may join an additional game drive and continue exploring the park’s rich wildlife and birdlife. Lake Nakuru is home to more than 400 bird species as well as animals such as black and white rhinos, buffalo, lions, leopards, Rothschild’s giraffes, colobus monkeys, impalas, hippos, and other wildlife.

After the safari, transfer to your accommodation in or near Lake Nakuru.

Begin the day with an early morning game drive in Lake Nakuru National Park, then return to the lodge or camp for breakfast.

After breakfast, depart by road for Lake Naivasha, a freshwater lake in the Great Rift Valley.

Visit Elsamere Conservation Centre, the former home of Joy and George Adamson, known for their pioneering wildlife conservation work and their connection with the lioness Elsa, made famous through Born Free.

After lunch, you may join an optional boat ride to Crescent Island. Enjoy a guided nature walk with a resident naturalist and look for wildlife such as giraffes, waterbucks, wildebeest, gazelles, impalas, and dik-diks.

Later, transfer to your hotel or lodge in Naivasha.

After breakfast, depart from Lake Naivasha and drive through the scenic Great Rift Valley toward the Masai Mara National Reserve.

Upon arrival, enjoy lunch at your lodge or camp and take some time to relax before heading out for an afternoon game drive.

Masai Mara is one of Kenya’s most famous wildlife destinations and is known for the Great Wildebeest Migration and its rich population of the Big Five — lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, and rhino.

During the game drive, you may also see Maasai giraffes, elands, zebras, impalas, topis, and Thomson’s and Grant’s gazelles across the open savannah.

Return to your lodge or camp for dinner and overnight stay.

Spend a full day exploring the Masai Mara National Reserve in search of its famous wildlife and, during the migration season, the spectacular Great Wildebeest Migration.

The reserve is home to the Big Five — lion, leopard, elephant, rhino, and buffalo — as well as zebras, giraffes, wildebeest, warthogs, gazelles, hartebeests, hyenas, topi antelopes, hippos, and crocodiles along the Mara River.

Masai Mara is also an excellent destination for birdwatching, with more than 400 recorded species, including vultures, ostriches, eagles, falcons, secretary birds, marabous, and turacos.

Enjoy game drives across the open savannah and take in the remarkable wildlife and landscapes of one of Africa’s most famous safari destinations.

Start the morning with tea, coffee, or hot chocolate before heading out on a morning game drive in the Masai Mara. Look for grazing herds, cheetahs, leopards, and other wildlife across the savannah.

Guests may also choose to join an optional hot air balloon safari (USD 430) for a unique aerial view of the reserve.

After the game drive, return to the lodge for breakfast.

An optional visit to a traditional Maasai village is also available at an additional cost, offering the chance to learn more about local culture, music, dance, and traditions.

Later, depart the Masai Mara by road and return to Nairobi, with lunch served en route.

Arrive in Nairobi in the late afternoon.
