Tour Overview
Embark on an unforgettable 4-day budget camping safari, designed to offer an authentic and immersive experience in two of Kenya's most iconic wildlife destinations: Masai Mara and Lake Nakuru. This group joining safari offers daily departures, making it ideal for solo travelers, couples, or small groups who want to experience the beauty and thrill of a traditional African safari without the high cost of luxury accommodations.
Masai Mara is world-renowned for its abundant wildlife, including the Big Five (lion, elephant, buffalo, leopard, and rhino), and its dramatic landscapes. During the Great Migration (typically July to October), you'll witness one of the greatest wildlife spectacles on Earth, as thousands of wildebeest and zebras make their way across the Mara River, followed by predators in pursuit.
Lake Nakuru, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is famous for its stunning flocks of flamingos and the presence of both black and white rhinos. The park also offers excellent opportunities to see lions, giraffes, buffaloes, and various bird species in a beautiful, diverse environment.
Highlights
Itinerary
Your adventure begins with an early pick-up from your Nairobi hotel or designated meeting point. After meeting your fellow travelers and guide, you’ll embark on a scenic drive through the Great Rift Valley to the world-famous Masai Mara National Reserve, with a brief stop for lunch along the way. Arriving in the Mara in the late afternoon, you’ll check in to your budget-friendly camping site and settle into your tents. Afterward, enjoy an exciting afternoon game drive, where you’ll have your first chance to spot the park's incredible wildlife, including giraffes, zebras, buffaloes, and the Big Five. Return to camp for a hearty dinner, and spend the night under the stars, listening to the sounds of the African wilderness.
On day two, wake up early for a thrilling morning game drive to witness the wildlife at its most active. The Masai Mara is home to large populations of predators such as lions, cheetahs, and leopards, as well as numerous herbivores. If you’re traveling during the migration season (July to October), you may have the chance to witness the Great Migration, as vast herds of wildebeest and zebras make their way across the Mara River. After a break for lunch at camp, head out for an afternoon game drive, continuing to explore the Mara’s diverse landscapes, including open savannahs, riverine forests, and acacia woodlands. Return to camp for dinner and another overnight stay under the stars.
After an early breakfast, you’ll leave the Masai Mara behind and begin your journey towards Lake Nakuru National Park. On the way, you’ll pass through scenic views of the Great Rift Valley, with a stop to stretch your legs and have lunch along the route. Arriving at Lake Nakuru in the afternoon, you’ll check in to your camp, nestled in the heart of the park or nearby. The park is also home to both black and white rhinos, as well as lions, giraffes, and buffaloes. As the sun sets, you’ll enjoy a delicious dinner and an overnight stay.
On the final day of your safari, enjoy an early morning game drive around Lake Nakuru, taking in the sights of the park’s abundant wildlife and stunning scenery. The park's wetlands and the surrounding forest provide perfect habitats for many animals, making it a photographer's paradise. Afterward, return to camp for breakfast, then start your journey back to Nairobi. You’ll arrive in Nairobi by mid-afternoon, where your safari ends. You’ll be dropped off at your hotel or the airport, marking the conclusion of your 4-day Masai Mara & Lake Nakuru adventure
