Important Travel Information for Your Uganda Safari

Before embarking on your 5 Days Uganda Gorillas, Chimpanzees and Wildlife Safari, please take note of the following essential information to ensure a safe, comfortable and unforgettable experience.

1. Gorilla Trekking Requirements

• The minimum age for gorilla trekking in Uganda is 15 years.

• Gorilla trekking permits must be secured in advance and are subject to availability.

• Gorilla trekking involves hiking through mountainous rainforest terrain and requires a reasonable level of physical fitness.

• Visitors are permitted to spend a maximum of one hour with a habituated gorilla family.

• Gorilla trekking permits are non-refundable once purchased, subject to Uganda Wildlife Authority regulations.

2. Chimpanzee Tracking

• The minimum age for standard chimpanzee tracking in Kibale National Park is 12 years.

• Chimpanzee tracking permits should be booked in advance.

• Tracking takes place in tropical rainforest and may involve walking on uneven or muddy trails.

3. Travel Documents and Health

• All international visitors must carry a valid passport, generally with at least six months' validity.

• Travellers requiring a Uganda visa should obtain the appropriate visa before travelling.

• Uganda requires a valid yellow fever vaccination certificate for eligible arriving travellers.

• Comprehensive travel and medical insurance, including emergency evacuation cover, is strongly recommended.

• Travellers should consult their healthcare provider about recommended vaccinations and malaria prevention before departure.

4. What to Pack

• Comfortable waterproof hiking boots.

5. Weather and Safari Conditions

Uganda enjoys a generally pleasant tropical climate, although weather conditions vary by region and altitude. Rainfall can occur throughout the year, particularly in the rainforest areas of Bwindi and Kibale. Travellers should prepare for changing weather and occasionally muddy trekking conditions.

6. Accommodation and Meals

Accommodation is provided at selected safari lodges and hotels according to the confirmed package. Special dietary requirements should be communicated in advance. Alternative accommodation of a comparable standard may be arranged where necessary, subject to availability.

7. Booking and Cancellation Policy

Gorilla and chimpanzee permits are subject to availability and should be confirmed as early as possible. Cancellation, postponement and amendment requests are governed by Gorilla Safari Consultants' booking terms and conditions and the applicable supplier policies.

8. Responsible Tourism

Guests are encouraged to respect wildlife, follow ranger instructions, avoid littering and support local communities. Flash photography is prohibited during gorilla trekking, and visitors must maintain the required distance from primates.

9. Safari Flexibility

Safari activities may be adjusted due to weather conditions, wildlife movements, park regulations or other operational circumstances. Any necessary changes will be communicated to guests, with suitable alternatives arranged wherever possible.

10. Our Commitment

International and domestic flights are not included in the safari package price.

Travellers are responsible for arranging their international flights to and from Entebbe International Airport, Uganda.

However, Gorilla Safari Consultants can assist with domestic flight bookings and flight arrangements upon request, subject to availability and additional costs.

Guests are encouraged to share their flight details in advance to facilitate smooth airport transfers and safari arrangements.

Travel and medical insurance are not included in the safari package price.

All travellers are strongly advised to obtain comprehensive travel insurance before arriving in Uganda. The insurance should cover emergency medical treatment, hospitalisation, medical evacuation and repatriation, trip cancellation, travel delays, lost or damaged luggage, and unforeseen circumstances.

Travellers participating in gorilla trekking, chimpanzee tracking and other adventure activities should ensure their insurance policy specifically covers these activities.

Gorilla Safari Consultants prioritises the safety and well-being of all guests and will provide reasonable assistance in coordinating emergency support whenever necessary.

Please note that all insurance arrangements, premiums, claims and associated costs remain the responsibility of the traveller.

• Additional gorilla trekking or chimpanzee tracking permits beyond those included in the package.

• Porter services during gorilla trekking and chimpanzee tracking.

• Extra accommodation nights before or after the scheduled safari.

• Meals and beverages not specified in the itinerary.

• Personal trekking equipment, including hiking boots, rain jackets and walking sticks.

• Any additional services requested by guests outside the confirmed itinerary.
