Dalyan Relax Boat Trip with Mud Baths & Iztuzu Beach
Koycegiz Tours cover a quiet lakeside town in Muğla Province on Turkey's southwestern coast, built along the shore of Köycegiz Lake and connected to the Mediterranean by the Dalyan River delta. Settlement in the area dates back to around 3400 BC, and the town's slower pace has kept it distinct from the larger resort destinations nearby.
Koycegiz forms part of a wider Turkey itinerary along the southwestern coast, often visited alongside Dalyan and the ancient city of Kaunos given their shared river system.
Koycegiz Lake and the Dalyan Delta
Köycegiz Lake, separated from the sea by a narrow strip of land, remains largely undeveloped and is known for its birdlife and surrounding pine forest. The lake drains into the Dalyan River, which winds through reed beds to Iztuzu Beach, a nesting site for loggerhead sea turtles protected under Turkish conservation law.
Thermal Springs and Nearby Sites
Sulfur-rich mud baths and thermal springs near Köycegiz Lake have drawn visitors for their reputed therapeutic qualities, typically combined with a boat trip along the river. Downstream, the rock-cut Lycian tombs at Kaunos overlook the delta, carved into the cliffside above the ancient city's ruins.
Getting Around
Köycegiz sits about 25 kilometers from Dalaman Airport, making it an accessible base for exploring the wider delta region without the crowds found in nearby Dalyan itself. Boat trips departing from the town's small harbor connect directly to the mud baths, the river and Iztuzu Beach.
Kaunos
Reached by a short boat trip from Köycegiz, the ruins of Kaunos include a Roman theater, a round Byzantine church and rock tombs cut into the cliff face above the Dalyan River, remnants of a city that once had its own harbor before the coastline silted up.
Koycegiz Tour Options
Local excursions such as a daily tour combining Köycegiz's Turkish bath and thermal mud are typically paired with time on the lake or a boat trip toward Dalyan.
Birdwatching on the Lake
Köycegiz Lake and its surrounding wetlands attract herons, kingfishers and migratory species throughout the year, making the area a quieter destination for birdwatching compared to the more developed coastline nearby.
Best Time to Visit Koycegiz
Spring and early summer bring mild temperatures well suited to lake and river excursions, while the sea turtle nesting season at Iztuzu Beach runs roughly from May to October.
