Kruje is a historic Albanian town perched on the side of a mountain. Originally inhabited by the Albani Illyrian tribe, it was also the capital of the first Albanian state in the Middle Ages, the Principality of Arber, before becoming the capital of the Kingdom of Albania. The town is also known for being recaptured by Albanian hero Skanderberg from the Ottomans in 1443.
