Albania Durrës Tours

Durrës Tours visit Albania's main port city and second-largest urban center, set on the Adriatic coast about 33 kilometers west of Tirana. Durrës Amphitheatre

Built in the early 2nd century AD, the Durrës Amphitheatre is the largest of its kind in the Balkans and once held tens of thousands of spectators. Rediscovered in 1966 beneath the residential Iso Boletini neighborhood, it remains partly excavated within the modern city, and a small Byzantine chapel with surviving wall frescoes occupies one of its vaulted corridors.

Venetian Tower and King's Mosque

Sections of the old city walls survive along the waterfront, including the Venetian Tower, a defensive structure from the medieval period. Nearby, the King's Mosque, built in 1502, is one of the oldest surviving religious buildings in Durrës.

Durrës in Albanian History

Durrës briefly served as the capital of newly independent Albania in 1914, when Prince Wilhelm of Wied established his short-lived government in the city before it moved to Tirana. The episode added a modern chapter to a city that Illyrian, Greek and Roman rulers had already contested for more than two thousand years.

Durrës Beaches

South of the historic center, a long stretch of sandy coastline draws both Albanian and international visitors through the summer months. Areas such as Currila and Golem are typically calmer and more developed than beaches farther south along the coast, with a promenade running along much of the shoreline.
