Blue Eye Spring

The Blue Eye, or Syri i Kaltër, is a natural karst spring roughly 20 kilometers northeast of Sarandë, where cold water rises from a depth that has never been fully measured. The water forms a deep blue circle against paler shallows, and the surrounding forest makes it a popular half-day stop from town. Swimming is possible in the outflow channel below the spring itself, where the current runs cold even in the height of summer.

Ksamil Islands

South of Sarandë, the small resort of Ksamil sits opposite four islets just offshore, close enough to swim to on a calm day. The beaches here are shallower and sandier than in Sarandë itself, which is why many day tours combine both stops.

Butrint Ancient City

About 18 kilometers south of Sarandë, Butrint is a UNESCO World Heritage Site built up in layers by Greek, Roman, Byzantine and Venetian settlers over more than two thousand years. The ruins sit on a lagoon surrounded by wetland forest, and visitors can walk past a Roman theater, a baptistery with preserved mosaics and the remains of a Venetian fortress in a single visit. A small on-site museum near the entrance displays finds excavated across the different layers of settlement.

The swimming season runs roughly from May to October, with July and August bringing the warmest sea temperatures and the largest crowds. Late spring and September offer milder heat and quieter beaches while keeping the water warm enough for swimming.
