A stop at one of these springs is a common addition to a White Desert trip, offering a break from driving and a chance to see the oasis's agricultural side away from the desert scenery.

Bedouin Desert Camps

Nights in the White Desert are typically spent at a Bedouin-run camp, with dinner cooked over an open fire and mattresses set out under open sky. These camps have no fixed infrastructure, so the experience depends on the operator and the season, but the near total absence of light pollution makes for clear desert stargazing.

Getting to Qasr Farafra

Qasr Farafra sits roughly 300 kilometers south of Bahariya Oasis and around 600 kilometers from Cairo by road, with no airport of its own. Most tours reach the town by four-wheel-drive from Bahariya or as part of a longer loop through the Western Desert oases, since public transport options to Farafra are limited.

Best Time to Visit Qasr Farafra

Cooler months between October and March are most comfortable for the White Desert, since daytime desert heat and cold nights are both easier to manage outside summer. Winter nights can still drop close to freezing, so camping trips call for warm layers even when daytime temperatures are mild.
